The U.S Department of Labor (DOL) has certified approximately 7,200 workers from California, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin states as eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA). Through the TAA program, DOL will leverage opportunities for displaced workers to acquire the skills needed to secure good jobs in promising areas of their local economies.  Additional information on TAA program and the range of DOL employment and training services is available on its website http://www.doleta.gov.

The Tennessee Attorney General has halted unlawful and misleading “notarios publicos” advertisements in Tennessee. Yesterday, the Attorney General Bob Cooper, on behalf of Mary Clement, the Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs, filed three settlements and two lawsuits against companies promoting themselves as a “notario publico” through misleading advertisements in Tennessee. The Tennessee law requires a notary public who is not licensed to practice law in Tennessee and advertises their services as a notary public to include following English disclaimer in their advertisements to caution consumers when they seek their services. “I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW IN THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, AND I MAY NOT GIVE LEGAL ADVICE OR ACCEPT FEES FOR LEGAL ADVICE.” However, some businesses are targeting Spanish-speaking Tennessee residents by advertising themselves as “notarios publicos”, when they are merely offering notary public services.

Consumers are encouraged to give complaints by dialing toll free number 1-800-342-8385 against any individual or organization advertising without the mandatory disclaimer.
