USCIS Recognizes Important Contributions of U.S. Military
May 21, 2009 – 7:18 am
In recognition of U.S. Military’s important contributions, President Obama and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USICS) recently gave a warm reception to U.S. Military personnel. On May 1, President Obama kicked off National Military Appreciation Month by hosting a special all-military naturalization ceremony for 25 service members at the White House. While recognizing the commitment and contributions made by the immigrant members of U.S. armed forces, USCIS in partnership with the Department of Defense and all other branches of the military conducts naturalization ceremonies every day around the country and overseas. For fiscal year 2008, USCIS naturalized 7,865 members of the military, a 33 percent increase from the previous year and a big achievement for the partnership.
Specialists across USCIS consider it a privilege and honor to process naturalization applications from military, and oversee that these applications are processed and completed expeditiously. In April, USCIS doubled the number of military naturalizations completed in March, and launched a concerted effort to make May the most successful military naturalization month in the agency’s history.
