Court Upholds E- Verify for Federal Contractors

August 31, 2009 – 9:46 am

E-Verify LogoToday, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland upheld the E-Verify rule for Federal Contractors, in response to a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce challenging the legality of the Federal Contractor E-Verify rule. This challenge was dismissed by the court and, unless another lawsuit is filed to challenge the Federal Contactor E-Verify rule, it is set to take effect on September 8, 2009. This rule will require certain federal contractors and sub-contractors to use E-Verify to determine the employment eligibility of both newly-hired employer and existing employees who are assigned to work on federal contract.
