DOJ Publishes Attorney General’s New FOIA Guidelines

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has published Attorney General’s new Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) guidelines issued pursuant to the President’s directive. On January 21, 2009, the President issued a memorandum for the heads of executive departments and agencies on the FOIA. The memorandum mandated that the Attorney General issue new guidelines governing the FOIA to the heads of executive departments and agencies, reaffirming the commitment to accountability and transparency and to publish such guidelines in the Federal Register. The Attorney General Issued FOIA guidelines on March 19, 2009 that are published in the Federal Register September 29, 2009.
