Designation of Haiti for TPS

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) have announced on January 21, that the Secretary of Homeland Security had designated Haiti for temporary protected status (TPS) for a period of 18 months. Under this designation, qualified Haitian nationals (and aliens having no nationality who last habitually resided in Haiti) may apply for TPS within the 180-days registration period that begins on January 21, 2010. These nationals may also apply for employment authorization documents and for permission to depart from and return to the United States. This designation is effective from January 21, 2010 to July 22, 2011. The 180-day registration period is open until July 20, 2010.
