Immigrant Daily Writes Letters to Senators

September 27, 2007 – 12:37 pm

Dear Senators Mikulski and Durbin:

I am a resident of Baltimore, MD and I urge you as my representative to support the DREAM Act of 2007 (S.774).

I want you to remember that this is a country of immigrants and we should make sure that this doesn’t change.  The U.S. prosperity was achieved due to the influx of talented people from all over the world who sought out the democracy and freedom that this nation afforded.  The people that come here for better future in hope to achieve their American dream should not be stopped in their tracks due to our xenophobic policies.

Children of undocumented immigrants should not be punished for the actions of their parents.  Actions that really should not be punished at all because they are a mere continuation of an American tradition – a search for a better life in a free country.

Please vote yes for this bill and others like it, which recognize that  immigrants can and do bring a lot to the bargaining table.  These people should not be persecuted as criminals for coming to the U.S. and benefiting our culture and economy.

Give children of undocumented aliens a chance to succeed by offering them a path to citizenship  that will ultimately benefit our nation.

Finally, I also urge you to consider including children of all immigrants to this bill.  Children of those people that are here on a non-immigrant visa and have not been able to adjust their status for whatever reason should have the same opportunity.  For most part these children are Americans at their core – many of them having spent a majority of their lifetime in the U.S. and in U.S. educational institutions.

Thank you for your attention to this issue and I hope that you will support this bill and other pro-immigrant bills in the future.

Sincerely,

Jan Krasny
