Great ILW letter to Editor

November 14, 2007 – 5:36 pm

I read this letter to editor today and found that it makes a great point.  I found it on ILW‘s website.  As a side point I must say that at some point the concept of nation-states and closed borders will hopefully vanish.  I am hoping that internet and further globalization will lead to a truly free-trade in ideas, resources and persons.

Dear Editor:
The word “invasion” isn’t appropriate to describe Mexicans or Chinese immigrants coming to the USA. None of them came here with weapons directing on Americans, none commit genocide by throwing small pox blankets, none steal Americans’ lands and properties. The natives people of the Americas (all Western Hemisphere) may call Europeans coming to their lands in the past as invaders and colonialists and in fact they were. It’s very shameful for anybody here to do name calling on these poor people if they remember the dark history of past illegal immigration and invasion committed by their white ancestors. It’s the western colonial powers that drew the imaginary borders that separate these native people and under what circumstances and rights they may call other human beings as “illegal”. How comes invaders that invade one’s home then deny the true home owner’s family members right to live and visit at that home? The only reason of those who agree with immigration restriction is to discourage competition from others. It’s a blatant human rights violation, racism based on apartheid policy. Under what rights ones must deny other human rights for his freedom of movement to trade his labor, goods and services to anybody for better compensation? If these selfish restrictionists are called also as racists, xenophobes etc., it’s well justified. It’s an inconvenient truth but the truth.
