For Obama, Past Friends are Turning Foes

Courtesy The Washington TimesPresident Obama who once enjoyed unwavering support and marched alongside Hispanic and immigrant rights activists is losing immigration allies as they took to the streets Wednesday to march against him, saying he has betrayed them by adopting Bush administration efforts to stem illegal immigration. Activists marched in Los Angeles and picketed Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s appearance in New York, angered over the administration’s support for an employer verification system for employers and a program that allows local police to enforce immigration laws. Venting her anger, Chung-Wha Hong, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition, said “I see the sense of betrayal creeping up.” According to the activists, Obama is now risking their support in the future.
