CAP Guidelines on Immigration Reforms
June 25, 2009 – 10:13 am
Highlighting the importance of fixing our broken immigration system, the Center for American Progress (CAP) suggested some guidelines that are critical to successfully addressing other key issues including health care and the economy. They stress that U.S. broken immigration system undermines its core values, disserves its economic and security interests, and diminishes its moral standing in the world. CAP asserts that in order to fix this predicament, the President and Congress should follow five key principles of reform to address this pressing domestic priority and they are:
1. Resolve the status of the undocumented,
2. Enhance legal immigration channels and labor mobility,
3. Protect U.S. workers,
4. Foster an inclusive American identity, and
5. Adopt smart enforcement policies and safeguards.
