Obama’s Five Points Immigration Plan – Summary

barack-obamaOn May 23, 2007, US President Barack Obama hinted towards the reforms required in immigration laws. While addressing the US senate floor, President Obama stated that “The time to fix our broken immigration system in now… We need stronger enforcement on the border and at the workplace… But for reform to work, we also must respond to what pulls people to America… Where we can reunite families, we should. Where we can bring in more foreign-born workers with the skills our economy needs, we should.”

President Obama has identified five problematic areas in the US immigration system that require immediate attention. His immigration reforms agenda is to:

a)    Create Secure Borders

b)    Improve Our Immigration System

c)    Remove Incentives to Enter Illegally

d)    Bring People Out of the Shadows

e)    Work with Mexico
