Call for Immigration Reform

irAs Congress prepares to take up immigration reform in early 2010, leading police executives from states as diverse as California, Iowa and Texas have joined a telephonic press conference as a part of growing chorus of law enforcement leaders calling for comprehensive immigration reform. Sacramento Police Chief Rick Braziel, Deputy Chief Kim Lemaux of Arlington, Texas; and Sheriff Bill McCarthy of Polk County, Iowa will discuss the damage to public trust and community safety that results from the broken immigration system. These speakers called for a reform legislation that strengthens border security, restores the rule of law, and legalizes undocumented workers in order to build relationships of trust between all resident and the police and enhance public safety.
