DOL’s Accomplishments during Administration’s 1st 100 Days
April 30, 2009 – 11:17 am
On completion of 100 days by the Obama administration, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has issued a list of its accomplishments during the period. According to DOL, its new Secretary, Hilda L. Solis has already taken a series of initiatives toward achieving two top priorities of creating new jobs and protecting American workers. To date, the DOL has obligated $45 billion of $46 billion made available under the Recovery Act. It also reversed number of regulatory actions that would have had the effect of lowering wages, creating unnecessary bureaucratic obligations to unions filing documents with the department and otherwise disadvantaging workers.
While commenting on DOL’s role in implementing American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Secretary Solis said, “By swiftly implementing portions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, we are assisting workers who have lost jobs, providing training opportunities for workers to upgrade their skills and identifying opportunities in emerging sectors such as green jobs and health information technology. By using all of the department’s resources, we are taking steps to ensure that workplaces are fair, safe and healthful.”
