ICE Reports One More Detainee’s Death

ICE LogoDespite claims by immigration detention authorities that adequate medical care is given to alien detainees, on July 24, 2009, one more death is reported from South Carolina hospital. The deceased has been identified as Vera Stojka, a 55-year-old Czech Republic national being held on immigration violation. He was admitted to the Columbia Care Regional Center (CCRC) in Columbia, South Carolina on March 31, 2009, due to longstanding medical conditions which are not revealed but preliminary cause of death is confirmed as cardiac arrest. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials have notified the deceased’s next of kin and informed the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York. Additionally ICE fulfilled all protocol requirements.
