Two Immigration Bills Introduced in the Senate

National Immigration Forum LogoTo address the growing concerns raised by recent news articles, and reports about the deplorable conditions in immigration detention centers, two important bills were introduced in the Senate. Through these legislations, the Senate seeks to fix U.S. broken immigration detention system by placing proper due process protection mechanisms for immigrants locked at various detention facilities across the U.S. Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Edward Kennedy (D-MA), and Kirsten Gillbran (D-NY) sponsored the first bill entitled “Protect Citizens and Residents from Unlawful Detention Act”.  Senators Menendez and Gillibrand sponsored the second bill entitled the “Strong STANDARDS Act (Safe Treatment, Avoiding Needless Deaths, and Abuse Reduction in Detention System).”
