U.S., Canada Agree to Combat Threats and Expedite Travel and Trade

uscanadaTuesday, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano and Public Safety Canada Minister Peter Van Loan have announced initiatives between the United States and Canada against terrorism and organized crime including enhancing information sharing and expanding integrated law enforcement. The initiatives announced by the authorities also aim at ensuring protection of privacy and economic security at the same time.

The meeting primarily focused on combating common threats and expediting travel and trade between both the countries. The areas discussed and agreed upon are: Border Shipping; Maritime Emergency Cooperation; NEXUS and FAST Cards; Immigration Information Sharing; Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing; Combating Human Trafficking, etc.
